Hus and I enjoyed an 8 course tasting menu at Matt Gillan at The Pass for Valentines Day -and it was outstanding.
An 8 course dinner is £80 pp, with a wine pairing coming in at £70 pp. A larger tasting of 10 course is also available for dinner is £90 pp, and wine pairing of £80 pp. We went for the 8 course dinner and this was certainly enough for us – I had to take a 30 minute break after our main of duck because I was getting so full. The overall experience of 8 course tasting took us around 3 hours, and we were not rushed at all.
As it was Valentines Day we were greeted with champagne and a rose for me, which was a nice touch. Hus spoke to the Maitre d’ and switched out fish/cheese courses for him with alternatives. We selected the wine pairing and at the end of our meal we were given a keepsake of our menus and the wine selections.
The restaurant is very small and intimate, with a direct view of the restaurant (where we saw Matt Gillan!) At each course the chefs bring over the food to tables and walk you through the course.
The tasting menu was a real ‘experience’ and a memory we will cherish for a long time. I would certainly recommend it and be dining here again myself.
The “snacks” selection was my favourite course, I loved all the textures and flavours.
